Three varieties with an affinity to our McLaren Vale region. Old Bush Vine Grenache provides aromatic lift and bright red fruit characters. Shiraz lends chewy tannin, spice and mid-palate weight, while Mourvèdre rounds out the blend and contributes balance and structure. This wine is a fun and challenging puzzle to assemble each vintage and will age gracefully up to a decade after release. – Alan Varney, Winemaker

THE VINEYARD
Old Bush Vine Grenache is sourced from distinguished sites in Blewitt Springs, Seaview, and Whites Valley where these old vines’ roots seek natural moisture deep below ancient sands. Shiraz is selected from higher elevation vineyards in Blewitt Springs and Clarendon where the natural proclivity towards lighter, brighter, spicier expressions of the variety lend themselves well to the overall balance of the wine, allowing the Grenache to shine. Mourvédre from an ironstone-laden block high up in Whites Valley brings suggestions of ferrous earth and dried herb.
-
WINEMAKING
Various fermentation regimes are used on a wide range of individual vineyard parcels to draw out the varietal character of each batch. Cold soaking, whole bunch fermentation, wild yeasts, submerged cap, and extended macerations are all judiciously employed. 10 – 30 days on skins prior to gentle pressing. Raised in seasoned French oak for nine months prior to blending and bottling.

FOOD PAIRING
